The Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation has awarded $10,000 to fund Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore’s fourth-grade program, JA Our Region, in Wicomico County Schools. In JA Our Region, students learn the key elements of operating a business in their region. During the in-class program, students have the opportunity to examine regional and state resources and supply chains, and solve problems by weighing risks and potential rewards. JA classroom volunteers—including members of Perdue Farms who donate their time and knowledge to teach the programs—demonstrate how resources are combined to create goods and services.

The Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, the charitable giving arm of Perdue Farms, was established in 1957 by company founder Arthur W. Perdue and is funded through the estates of Arthur W. Perdue and Frank Perdue. “Our Region is a wonderful curriculum for the fourth-graders of our community. It teaches them so much about where we live and the economy of our area,” said Kim Nechay, executive director of the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation. “We are honored to continue our relationship with Junior Achievement and make this program a reality this year.”

The Perdue Foundation grant money will fund JA Our Region programs across Wicomico County throughout the year, giving local fourth-grade students an edge on understanding business and entrepreneurship in our area, and preparing them for success in higher grades and throughout life.
