TidalHealth Peninsula Regional is pleased to announce that Doreena “Dee” Kline, certified nursing assistant (CNA) on 3 East, has been selected as its Sunshine Award recipient for October 2025.

Kline was nominated not once, but three times by recent patients and their family members for her compassion, professionalism and exceptional service:

“My father is a patient under [Dee’s] care. She is excellent with him and our visiting family members. Dee is very professional and cares for him with a smile and positive words for all. We trust her with him and any information we need. Thank you for everything that TidalHealth and the staff here have done for him.”

“I cannot say enough good things about Dee. She is the perfect professional for our family. She has kindness, empathy, and a spirit that comforts my dad. She gets him to listen to her with her wit and knowledge. She lights up the room every time she enters. She is so kind to my mom, too.

She listened to our concern that Dad could not sleep because he had to urinate so much during the night, and he would not drink or eat because he did not want to urinate. She took charge and suggested a condom catheter. Now Dad is eating, drinking and sleeping. Thank you for your amazing skills and kindness — you are special and appreciated!”

“Dee is the most compassionate professional, and she understands each person’s needs, especially mine. She is the best CNA. During my recent stay, she cared for me in a respectful and extremely caring way, injecting just the right amount of humor and instructions to follow.

I enjoy being on my toes when Dee comes around. She takes great care with my daily hygiene, hair washing, and everyday cleaning, so much so that I feel like I am at home. She makes me feel pampered despite lying in a hospital bed.

I also had a wonderful experience with Dee back in August. She even remembered me, despite having many patients before and after that time period. Dee has been instrumental in helping me recover to the point that my release to rehab is imminent.

Dee is positive and has encouraged me every day that I have been lucky enough to have her. Others should look to her as a perfect example of the meaning of a CNA to a patient.”

Kline was honored in a ceremony before her coworkers and presented with fresh flowers, a pin and a certificate recognizing her exceptional devotion to team and patient care.
