The Life Crisis Center, Inc. has received a $900,406.00 grant from the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention for its programs to support victims of child sexual abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault and survivors of homicide victims. The funding comes from a federal Victims of Crime Assistance (VOCA) grant from the Office of Victims of Crime at the US Department of Justice. These funds are administered by the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention and will be spent over two years, beginning October 1, 2016 and ending September 30, 2018.
This is the largest grant ever received by the Life Crisis Center and will allow the agency to hire a seventh full time trauma therapist, in addition to supporting nine other full time positions. “We are very gratified that GOCCP has confidence in our ability to support local victims of serious crime on the Lower Shore,” said Michele Hughes, Executive Director of the Life Crisis Center. “This funding will allow us to keep our shelter fully staffed and our 24/7 hotline answered with well-trained professional staff. VOCA funding supports ten jobs at this agency. Without it, we would not be able to help over 1000 victims of domestic violence and more than 350 victims of child abuse each year. As the needs of the population become more complex, it is critical that we maintain well-trained, highly motivated staff. This funding allows us to do that.”
The Life Crisis Center is the provider of comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse in Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester Counties. LCC also provides services to survivors of victims of homicide as well as answering the Maryland Crisis Hotline, the National Suicide Hotline and 2-1-1 Maryland information and referral services.
