[Salisbury, Md, June, 23] — Lower Shore Land Trust Partners with Wicomico Habitat for Humanity on Pollinator Friendly Project
A generous grant from Coastal Realtors to Lower Shore Land Trust has made this exciting partnership possible. On Thursday, June 25th, Lower Shore Land Trust will install the first of three projects in Salisbury to support pollinator habitat at new Habitat homes. The partnership gives Lower Shore land Trust an opportunity to increase pollinator habitat, while providing support to Habitat for landscaping.
The project was designed as a pilot program to determine the interest and gauge the success for plant survival. Suzy Taylor, Vice Chair for the Lower Shore Land Trust has long envisioned a partnership where the Trust could assist low income residents get a jump start on landscaping that is actually beneficial to the environment. The Trust is able to supply the homeowner with information about the plantings and care of plants. “This is a win-win for everyone,” according to Taylor. “Lower Shore Land Trust increases pollinator friendly habitat and Habitat gets much needed support for landscaping new homes.”
As a Christian housing ministry, Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people of all faiths to make homeownership of decent, affordable homes a matter of conscience and action. Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County was founded in 1987; since then the affiliate has built 69 homes locally. Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent homes with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat homes are sold to partner families at no profit, and financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments come back to the affiliate to help build more homes for more families.
Lower Shore Land Trust is an active nonprofit operating in the Lower Eastern Shore and is passionate about promoting the use of native plants to create more habitat for native pollinators and animals.
