Eastern Shore, MD — As the excitement of NCAA’s March Madness fills the air, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore is thrilled to announce its own month-long initiative: MATCH MADNESS! This special campaign celebrates the current mentoring matches (Bigs and Littles) while emphasizing the critical importance of mentorship throughout Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
MATCH MADNESS aims to raise awareness about mentorship and encourage individuals aged 18 and over to explore the rewarding experience of becoming a BIG. With over 100 children currently on the waiting list, the goal is to recruit 100 new adult mentors this month, who will play a pivotal role in shaping the lives of these children.
“Being a Big has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. When I first joined the program, I thought I was signing up to make a difference in a child’s life—but I didn’t realize how much my Little would impact mine. Seeing her confidence grow, and watching her open up and being herself has been truly incredible. Mentoring has taught me patience, empathy, and the importance of simply showing up. It’s not about grand gestures, but about being there, listening, and offering encouragement,” says Meriam Okani, a current Big in Wicomico County.
The agency invites compassionate individuals from all nine Eastern Shore Counties to join them in defending the potential of local youth. By committing just 2-4 hours a month, you can help ignite the power and promise within a child.
