Salisbury, MD – TidalHealth Peninsula Regional is pleased to announce that Adalberto Mercedes, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) of patient care area 3 West, has been selected as its Sunshine Award recipient for March 2025.
Mercedes was recognized for his professionalism, kindness and compassion by the family member of a patient under his care. They wrote:
“While every on one of the CNA’s was cheerful and met my father’s needs, Adalberto just had something about him that took it to the next level. His demeanor was so relaxed and upbeat that he put my father at ease (something nobody else was able to do).
My father is legally blind, and Adalberto always seemed to anticipate his needs. He explained food on his plate and where each food item was placed. He cut the food for my dad, arranged the soda can so that the opening was directly facing him so he could just bring it to his face. Dad did not want to use a straw.
These may seem like small things, but it makes a huge difference to someone in my dad’s position. Adalberto created an environment where an 87-year-old blind man who was confined to a hospital bed could feel as independent as possible.”
Mercedes was honored in a ceremony before his coworkers and presented with fresh flowers, a pin and a certificate recognizing his exceptional devotion to team and patient care.
