Explore our closest star, the Sun!
On Saturday, March 25, we’ll be learning all about our closest star, the Sun! In the morning, explore how stars form within a nebula and see if you have what it takes to make a sun-like star! Then, in the afternoon, weather permitting, join us on the Wallops Visitor Center Observation Deck to observe the Sun safely. We’ll hunt for Sunspots and learn about different forms of energy being emitted from the Sun as you create an ultraviolet energy detector. See you there!
Local and looking to volunteer?
We’d love to have you! We’re looking for volunteers on the Delmarva Peninsula, aged 16 and older, to support NASA’s Wallops Visitor Center activities like public rocket launch viewing events, guided programs, special events, guest services, and more. If you’re an aspiring scientist, science communicator, or you are simply interested in current NASA missions, aeronautics, and space, we invite you to stop by and fill out an application today!
Are you up for a challenge?
Join us on Saturday, April 8, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. for an egg-cellent STEM engineering challenge! Your task is to design a carrier to transport an egg from the top of the Wallops Visitor Center Observation Deck down to the outside grounds of the Wallops Visitor Center. Come put your problem-solving skills to the test! Then, from 1-3 p.m., join us back inside on the Gallery floor for a science demonstration on dye!
Launch Away!
Explore rocketry and NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility Sounding Rocket Program on Saturday, April 15, while you build and launch straw rockets with us! This is always a popular event; come join in the fun!
Coming back this fall!
Our free virtual field trips are keeping us busy! We have a full schedule and are preparing for an exciting and packed summer season. While these programs will be away for the summer, they’ll return after Labor Day. Stay tuned for when fall registration opens!
