Salisbury, MD (September 24, 2024) – Nautilus Solar Energy® and the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce (SACC) proudly co-hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of a 3 megawatt (MW) community solar project in Salisbury, MD. This event marks a significant milestone in the region’s commitment to sustainable energy and community development. Chamber members and local leaders had the opportunity to tour the solar farm, which now provides equitable and affordable access to renewable energy for over 290 local subscribers, including five commercial businesses within the Delmarva utility territory.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the launch of our community solar project here in Salisbury,” said Eric LaMora, Executive Director of Community Solar at Nautilus Solar Energy. “This project exemplifies our shared commitment to providing clean, affordable energy to all Marylanders. We are deeply grateful to the Salisbury community and our partners for their support in making this vision a reality. Together, we are paving the way for a more sustainable future in Maryland.”

In May 2023, Governor Wes Moore of Maryland signed HB 908 into law, making Maryland the 23rd state in the U.S. with a permanent community solar program. The legislation ensures that historically disadvantaged Marylanders have equitable access to utility bill savings at a time when inflated energy prices are driving up household energy costs.

Beyond cost savings, community solar enhances grid reliability and resilience, creates local jobs, fosters economic development, and supports infrastructure improvements, all of which contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future. As an example, with an annual production capacity of 1.7 million kWh, the Salisbury community solar farm is set to make a meaningful impact by offsetting nearly 1,200 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions—equivalent to removing 290 cars from the roads each year.

As the long-term owner of this community solar project, Nautilus Solar Energy is dedicated to ensuring its ongoing energy production, maintaining its long-term performance, and managing customer subscriptions. In Maryland, Nautilus is a proud supporter of the Delmarva Shorebirds and Salisbury University athletics. The company currently owns and manages more than 85 MW of operational and late-stage development projects in the state, providing clean renewable power to tens of thousands of Marylanders.
