With additional space and modernized features, the Town of Bridgeville’s newest police station is designed to better serve the citizens of Bridgeville, Delaware.
Due to recent annexations, the town found itself in need of an expanded police force and, in turn, desired an improved facility to accommodate modern-day policing. The previous station, located in a former bank building, lacked the adequate space to efficiently perform day-to-day public safety and first-responder procedures. As a result, the Town of Bridgeville decided to relocate and construct an entirely new police station. Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc. (DBF) was hired to provide full in-house architectural, structural engineering, civil engineering and surveying services for the new 4,000 SF single-story facility located within close proximity to Town Hall. The project was managed by Chris Cullen, AIA, a Senior Architect with the firm who brought recent new police station experience in Rehoboth Beach and Selbyville to the project as well. Delmarva Veteran Builders, LLC served as general contractor for the project.
The building was designed to accommodate eight police officers, including a chief and lieutenant, evidence prep/storage, break room and a processing area equipped with an interview room, holding cell and video conferencing capabilities. The site layout included public parking, as well as a secured area for police vehicles and detainee processing.
“Working with our communities as they strive to provide the very best services for their residents, particularly public safety, is especially meaningful to us,” explains Mike Wigley, AIA, president of DBF. “Town Manager Jesse Savage and Police Chief Burke Parker, along with the Town Commissioners, were committed to the new facility and what it ultimately means for the Town.”
