Salisbury, MD — The City of Salisbury is moving forward with a new trail and fitness project at Lake Street Park aimed at expanding access to safe, walkable recreation space within the neighborhood.
Supported through federal Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) funds, the project includes construction of a walking trail that will loop around the perimeter of the park along the existing fence line, creating a dedicated space for walking, jogging and outdoor activity. Along the trail, eight outdoor workout stations will be installed with benches at each location to provide spaces for exercise, rest and gathering throughout the park. Salisbury residents can enjoy outdoor exercise equipment while maintaining social distancing.
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of May, weather permitting.
The addition of outdoor fitness equipment brings free and accessible exercise opportunities directly into the neighborhood, helping remove barriers to healthy activity for residents of all ages. The stations are designed to encourage movement and everyday use of the park without requiring transportation or access to a gym.
“This project is an investment in the health, wellness and quality of life of this neighborhood and our community as a whole. We are proud to continue investing in projects that strengthen our neighborhoods and expand recreational opportunities throughout Salisbury,” said Mayor Randy Taylor.
The Lake Street Trail Project reflects the City’s continued investment in neighborhood parks and public spaces that improve quality of life, encourage recreation and bring people together in meaningful ways.
