SALISBURY – Nicole Gattis, patient care technician (PCT) on the patient care unit 5 West, has been selected as TidalHealth Peninsula Regional’s October 2024 Sunshine Award recipient for her professionalism, kindness, and compassion.
Gattis was nominated by a peer, who wrote:
A patient with cerebral palsy and blindness became incredibly upset after being cleaned up and repositioned following an unfortunate vomiting incident.
He moaned and banged his chest while Nicole tried to console him. She knew from a previous admission that he liked music and wore headphones, but on this admission, he did not have his headphones with him.
Proactively finding an alternative solution, Nicole started playing Michael Jackson for the patient and almost immediately he started humming, bobbing his head and calming down.
Nicole is well-known for showing compassion for patients, and this is but one of the many acts of her kindness for which she is respected for showing her patients.
Gattis was honored in a ceremony before her coworkers and presented with fresh flowers, a pin and a certificate recognizing her exceptional devotion to team and patient care.
Cutline: Nicole Gattis, PCT, is TidalHealth Peninsula Regional’s Sunshine Awardee for October 2024.
