Physical Therapists projected to see more than 25% Long Term Job Growth
SALISBURY, MD – Health care is on the rise with baby boomers aging and many retiring near the beaches. That’s why it’s not a surprise that caregiving professions including home health care, will be in steady demand throughout the region for years to come. The employment of Physical Therapists is expected to grow 28% over a ten-year span which is considered much more rapid than the average, for other occupations.
“We are always looking for qualified physical therapists to join our team,” said Barbara Murray, Peninsula Home Care Maryland Branch Director. “One of our main objectives in the home is to help patients gain their independence. Physical therapy is a critical part of recovery because it allows our patients to get stronger so they can get back on their feet and back to their life.”
Every year, National Physical Therapy month falls in October and focuses on the impact that physical therapy has on individual lives. PT’s play a major role in helping people with long-term conditions achieve their goals, fulfil their potential and experience a better quality of life. The individuals who seek and need PT services range from babies to seniors, from people with disabilities to high performing athletes.
Excellence at work in Maryland
During Physical Therapy Month, Peninsula Home Care is recognizing a PT as “Outstanding Physical Therapist of the Year.” This individual was nominated internally by other staff members and all nominations were voted on by a team of PHC leaders.
The following Peninsula Home Care PT was selected as “Outstanding Physical Therapist of the Year.”
Rod Filart – Salisbury Branch
Rod has been with PHC for eight years. He earned his physical therapy degree from Pines City College and worked in inpatient and outpatient in a hospital in the Philippines. After moving to the United States in 2010, Rod spent five years as a PRN at Atlantic General Hospital, worked part time in a skilled nursing facility and worked for HealthSouth Chesapeake Rehabilitation Hospital.
He says home care is challenging because most homes aren’t made to suit the patients needs. He enjoys working one-on-one with patients, educating them and making the necessary modifications to keep them safe in their home.
“I was surprised when I was informed that I was being recognized as PT of the Year,” said Rod. “I know this is an individual award but what we do is a team effort from the very beginning. I think every member of our PT team is deserving of this honor.”
Here’s what his colleagues had to say about working with him:
- “Rod is very compassionate and caring.”
- “He is very supportive of his team and the staff. He is respectful and dedicated.”
- “He provides excellent patient care and is great at educating patients and caregivers.”
- “Rod consistently consults with the occupational therapists and nurses to discuss patient needs.”
