January 6, 2020 – Salisbury, Md. – PKS & Company, P.A., Certified Public Accountants & Advisors to Business, is pleased to announce that Daniel M. O’Connell II, CPA/PFS, CVA has been elected to serve as the firm’s next Managing Partner.
Dan has been working alongside John M. Stern Jr., CPA/PFS for the last two years in a co-management role to ensure proper transition of the top role in the Firm. John has served as Managing Partner since 2004.
“It has been my honor and privilege to serve as Managing Partner over the last 15 years,” said Stern. “Dan will bring a great deal of knowledge and experience to the Managing Partner role. He has been directly involved in the management of the firm since his admission as a partner in 2005 and is a natural choice to lead us into the next generation. We are fortunate to have experienced a great deal of stability in the leadership of our firm, with only two Managing Partners in our 41-year history. I am confident that Dan will provide outstanding direction for the firm in the coming years.”
Under John’s direction, the firm has achieved a number of significant milestones and evolved to be the CPA firm of choice in the region. Total personnel increased from approximately 35 in 2004 to nearly 80 in 2019. The firm has remained on the forefront of technology, continuously given back to the communities in which it serves, and been recognized as one of the most progressive CPA firms in the Delmarva region.
Originally from western Maryland, Dan joined PKS in 1995 while attending Salisbury University, subsequently earned his CPA, PFS and CVA designations, and was admitted as a partner in 2005. He specializes in economic, financial, operational, and management consulting to small and medium sized businesses, medical practice consulting, litigation support, and business valuations. In addition, he has extensive experience in income tax, retirement & financial planning for owners of small to medium sized businesses and high net worth individuals.

Dan will continue to be based primarily in the Salisbury office location but will spend more time in the Ocean City and Lewes offices. “Through effective use of technology, our clients can be served well from any location and spending time in all three offices will ensure a consistent client experience and culture for our staff.”
John and Dan will continue to work together to ensure a smooth transition for staff and clients alike. The duties and responsibilities of the Managing Partner will continue to expand as the firm continues to grow and evolve. John will continue working as a Partner in the firm with an emphasis on sharing his knowledge and experience with younger staff.
