PNC Bank recently provided a $10,000 grant to support United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore’s Imagination Library Program. Imagination Library delivers free books each month to the homes of local children ages birth to five to encourage reading and ensure success in kindergarten and beyond. In 2012, the PNC Foundation provided a $15,000 grant to the United Way to launch the Imagination Library project on the lower Eastern Shore. The funding was in support of PNC Grow Up Great, a $350 million, bilingual initiative to improve early childhood education.
“The Imagination Library program is serving a critical need in the community and we are thrilled to see the positive impact that it is having on children in this region,” said Jennifer Joseph, PNC Market Executive on the Eastern Shore. “PNC is committed to providing families with the tools and resources to help children be successful in kindergarten and life.”
The grant will provide more than 4,600 books to 385 children on the Lower Eastern Shore. Since Imagination Library began in May of 2012, United Way has distributed nearly 40,000 books to over 1,800 children in Worcester, Wicomico, Somerset and Dorchester Counties.
