Salisbury, MD — The Friends of Poplar Hill Mansion, in partnership with the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, co-hosted a ribbon cutting and community celebration on Monday, August 25, to mark 50 years of Poplar Hill Mansion as a museum.
Neighbors, Chamber members, local leaders and community supporters came together to share in the milestone, tour Salisbury’s oldest home and enjoy time connecting with one another. The event included proclamations honoring the Mansion’s anniversary and the volunteers who have kept its story alive, presented by State Senator Mary Beth Carozza, County Council President John Cannon and Mayor Randy Taylor. Shawn Jester from Congressman Andy Harris’ office also attended, and the anniversary was recognized in the Congressional Record, mentioned on the Maryland House of Representatives floor by his office.
Guests enjoyed a nostalgic spread of 1970s favorites like fondue, pigs in a blanket, Watergate Salad, Polynesian meatballs and Harvey Wallbanger Cake—recipes that brought back memories and added to the celebration.
The Friends of Poplar Hill Mansion would like to thank the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, Robert Nock Insurance, Margaret Lawson and Belford Lawson III, Esq., for their support in making the 50th Anniversary celebration possible.
Poplar Hill Mansion continues to welcome the community to explore its history. The museum is open for guided tours every Friday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to come out and discover this meaningful piece of local history.
