Registration Open for Online High School Summer School for Credit, Voluntary Middle School Summer Skills Program STAY SHARP, Wicomico Summer Fun! Website Launches June 22

High school students needing to take classes for remedial credit or wishing to get ahead by taking courses for original credit can now make plans to do so in the Online High School Summer School being offered June 29-Aug. 13 by Wicomico County Public Schools.

Registration is open online for Wicomico County’s Online High School Summer School. Parents and guardians may register students online through June 25 at https://wcboe.org/Page/5285 (or look for Summer School Info on the home page at www.wcboe.org) using a credit card for payment.

For those preferring to pay with cash or check, or needing to pick up a laptop for online learning, there will be two in-person registration days at the James M. Bennett Auditorium. In-person registration will take place from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. June 24 and 25.

Wicomico Schools is also offering a free online summer skills program for middle schoolers. STAY SHARP is a voluntary program for middle school students to support them in keeping their math and English skills sharp during the summer months. This online program will be self-paced and individualized to serve the needs of each student. Registration will be open online through June 25, with the program beginning July 6. Student would need to be available July 6 or 7 for a diagnostic test to determine the starting point for skills work. Visit https://www.wcboe.org/Page/5285 for information and the registration link.

Starting June 22, students in grades 1-8 can visit a new school system website, Wicomico Summer Fun! (https://sites.google.com/wcboe.org/wicomicosummerfun), for a wealth of activities that will be updated weekly. Wicomico Summer Fun! will include engaging, fun, hands-on activities students and parents can do together over the summer break. There’s something for everyone in art, music, cooking classes, fitness, Destination Imagination instant challenges, science, reading, math, virtual field trips, exploring our world, mindfulness, and more. Our activities are designed to get students outside, get creative, and get moving, and students will have the chance to win prizes for participating.

High School Online Summer School

Classes will be held online June 29-Aug. 13 for both remedial and original credit courses, with students expected to log in and do two hours of work each class day. (Due to the school system’s summer hours, classes will not be held on Fridays in July.)

Remedial Summer School: The charge per course for Wicomico County students is $25/$50/$100 (Free/Reduced/Paid Meals). Out-of-county students pay $160 per course.

Schools mailed year-end report cards on June 19. Students needing to make up credits may register for up to two of these remedial courses:

Original Credit/Honors Session: Summer courses for original credit will be offered in Honors Chemistry, Honors Algebra II and Honors Geometry. Students who will be in grades 9-12 next year must contact a guidance counselor for approval to register. Students who enroll in an original credit summer course can make room in their school schedule for special programs like JROTC, CTE and VPA, and expand the number of math, science and/or AP courses they can take in high school. The charge per course for Wicomico County students is $50/$100/$200 (Free/Reduced/Paid Meals). Out-of-county students pay $325 per course.
