SALISBURY, Md. – Take part in a Thanksgiving tradition on the trails of Pemberton Park by running or walking the 11th annual Turkey Trek 5K.
The race is set for Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28. Enjoy refreshments and pie after crossing the finish line.
The event is organized by Wicomico County Recreation, Parks & Tourism and benefits Pemberton Park Nature Camp and other environmental education programs. Early registration is available through Nov. 24 for $25. The cost for on-site registration is $30.
The race begins at 9 a.m. On-site registration will take place from 7:30-8 a.m. and preregistered runners should check in from 8-8:30 a.m. Before the race, there will be a group warm-up with Kate James of Driven Physiotherapy.
Register by Nov. 1 to be guaranteed an event shirt. Long-sleeved shirts are available for an additional $5 for those who register by that date.
“The Turkey Trek 5K is such a fun way to start the Thanksgiving holiday,” said Vanessa Junkin, marketing and public relations manager at Wicomico County Recreation, Parks & Tourism. “The trails at Pemberton Park are beautiful, too.”
There will be awards for the overall male and female winner and for first through third place male and female runners in the following age groups: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60-plus. Participants can dress up and try to earn the award for Best Thanksgiving Costume.
Pemberton Historical Park is located at 5561 Plantation Lane in Salisbury. Registration is available at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center box office (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.) and online at www.PembertonPark.org.
