SALISBURY, Md. – Start Thanksgiving with a run on the trails of Pemberton Park at the 12th annual Turkey Trek 5K.
The Wicomico County Recreation & Parks race is set for Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 26, with new COVID-19 precautions in place. There will be two race start times this year, at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., and the race will be timed using chip timing.
Registration is $35, space is limited, and there will be no race day registration. Participants in the 8 a.m. race should check-in between 7-7:45 a.m., and participants in the 10 a.m. race should check-in between 9-9:45 a.m.
Before each race start, there will be a group warm-up with Kate James of Driven Physiotherapy.
Register by Nov. 1 to be guaranteed a long-sleeved event shirt.
“We’re excited to keep the Turkey Trek tradition going at Pemberton Park this Thanksgiving,” said Program Director Jamie Nichols. “We’ll be offering two start times to keep people distanced, and there will be other health and safety precautions in place, too.”
Among those precautions are a health screening, social distancing and mask-wearing in common areas while not running. No spectators will be permitted.
There will be awards for the overall male and female winner and for first through third place male and female runners in the following age groups: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50-plus. Participants can dress up and try to earn the award for Best Thanksgiving Costume.
Pemberton Historical Park is located at 5561 Plantation Lane in Salisbury. Registration is available at the Wicomico Civic Center box office (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.) and online at www.PembertonPark.org.
Our highest priority is the health and safety of our program participants. The Wicomico Recreation & Parks Department is continuously monitoring the COVID-19 situation through regular updates from the Wicomico County Health Department and the Department of Emergency Services.
