Rotary Club of Salisbury Wheelchair Ramp Build

2026 ramp build october

On several occasions in October, members of the Rotary Club of Salisbury, our community’s People of Action, worked with Chesapeake Housing Mission to build a 40-foot wheelchair ramp for a Somerset County man who has a long history of health issues.  This month’s project continues a decades’ long Rotary Club of Salisbury history of building ramps for needy persons.

Mr. Elwood Long uses a wheelchair inside his home and needs a wheelchair ramp to help him enter and exit his home safely.

During the two prebuild sessions and the ramp build itself, 34 volunteers amassed more than 112 hours of

work preparing for and then building the wheelchair ramp.  When all of the work was completed, the workers from Chesapeake Housing Mission and the Rotary Club of Salisbury presented Mr. Long and his daughter Nina Nichols with a Bible signed by all that worked on the ramp build.   Mr. Long and his daughter were truly grateful for the addition of the much-needed ramp.

This work is part of the Rotary Club of Salisbury’s more than century of Service Above Self community improvement projects.  The club always welcomes new members who wish to enjoy the club’s fellowship, weekly meetings with interesting speakers, and doing things to help our neighbors.  Contact BJ Summers at 443-880-4296 or bjsummers072481@gmail.com or visit the club website at www.rotarysalisbury.org.
