Members of the Wicomico Rotary, Salisbury Sunrise Rotary, and the Rotary Club of Salisbury came together July 19 to present a $4,500.00 donation to “Operation We Care”. The donation was made possible from the funds raised by the three Clubs from the inaugural year of their joint “Flags For Heroes” project. This project provided a way for members of the community to honor their personal heroes by sponsoring American Flags. The flags were proudly displayed during the two weeks surrounding Memorial Day, 2016, at the Hobbs Road & Route 50 intersection in Salisbury.
Regularly, “Operation We Care” sends Care Boxes to our military personnel serving overseas in various areas, including Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait and Afghanistan. These boxes are filled with everything from toiletries, like shampoo, to non-perishable snacks, like granola bars. Their next shipment is scheduled for mid-November when they anticipate filling 800 boxes. The funds raised by the three Wicomico County Rotary Clubs will support mailing costs for approximately 270 of these Care Boxes.
The Flags For Heroes will be conducted annually. If you missed an opportunity to participate this year, look for the display to return Memorial Day 2017.
