The Rotary Club of Salisbury, the Salisbury Sunrise Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Wicomico County invite all Delmarva residents to join them in stuffing the book bags of underprivileged children this fall.
On Saturday, August 9, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., members of all three Rotary clubs will be outside the K-Mart at Route 50 and Tilghman Road in Salisbury collecting items for the clubs’ annual “Back to School Backpack Project.” It’s hoped enough items will be received to stuff 600 or more book bags.
Those wishing to participate are asked to buy traditional back to school items like backpacks, spiral notebooks, pencils, loose leaf paper, soft pencil pouches, crayons, highlighters, plastic rulers, lined index cards and glue sticks. Items may be purchased that day, or earlier, and donated at the K-Mart drop off location on August 9 or given directly to any Rotary member before August 16. Cash donations to support the purchase of supplies will also be accepted.
On Saturday, August 16, backpacks will be given away to deserving children at the Christian Shelter, 334 Barclay Street in Salisbury. Any family with a child in need of a backpack for the new school year but without the funds to make that purchase is invited to attend. The backpack giveaway is scheduled from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. or while supplies last, and the child must attend with a parent to receive a backpack.
