For 32 years, the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce has hosted the Salisbury Festival held annually in the spring in Downtown Salisbury, MD.  After careful consideration, the Chamber has decided to bid farewell to the Salisbury Festival in 2015.

The Salisbury Festival, originally called the Dogwood Festival, began in the 1980’s when Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council’s held an event called “Arts on the Plaza” that highlighted Downtown Salisbury and featured local artists. As time went on, the festival continued to have a large arts & culture component but also worked to provide an opportunity for local non-profit organizations to raise money for their cause and to get the word out about the many good things that they are doing for our community.

Over the years the festival has brought hundreds of thousands of people to Downtown Salisbury, helped local non-profit organizations raise thousands of dollars, and provided a fun-filled weekend for countless families and individuals in the community. The Chamber would like to sincerely thank all of those that made the Salisbury Festival possible, including past festival chairpersons and planning committees, the City of Salisbury and Wicomico County, event sponsors, volunteers, vendors, entertainers, and hundreds of other businesses, organizations, and individuals that helped to make a festival that has become a community tradition on the Eastern Shore.

As Downtown Salisbury continues to grow and evolve, it will be the Chamber’s mission to aid in this growth by producing new and fresh events that will be relevant to our vibrant and ever changing community.  Although the Salisbury Festival has been retired, the Chamber has already begun work on creating new events that will build on the excitement surrounding the renaissance of downtown.  It is the hope of the Chamber to continue providing fun and affordable activities for the community, while also working to support local businesses and organizations, and helping to promote the growth of Downtown Salisbury.
