Members of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce gathered at Krause Smiles, a dental practice that specializes in serving children ages one to 21 and those with special needs of all ages, for a ribbon cutting to celebrate Dr. Mark Krause’s new leadership of the practice and membership in the Chamber.
Dr. Mark’s main goal is to create a caring dental home while providing exceptional dental care. Early detection of dental issues and prevention of potential dental concerns are equally important to the Krause Smiles team, as it was to his father, Dr. Jerry Krause whom just this month retired from the practice. Krause Smiles has made a seamless transition from the legacy Dr. Jerry created for 40 years treating the local community to the caring hands of Dr. Mark.
Dr. Krause is member of both the American Dental Association AND the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. This enables him to stay abreast of the latest research and best practices for both general dentistry and that related to treating children. He explained, “Not only do children have different dentition than adults, but they tend to have unique dental and behavioral needs. These may include dental sealants, fluoride treatments, home care and especially patient and parent education to address potential or existing dental issues.” Being knowledgeable in the latest health-care and insurance reform issues also helps Dr. Krause be an advocate for his patients’ dental needs. “I want to ensure that I’m making decisions that are best for my patients’ dental care, rather than allowing it to be limited or controlled by insurance companies who likely have a different agenda,” noted Dr. Krause.
Dr. Mark began his career in Salisbury and is an alumnus of Salisbury University. During his time as an undergraduate, he worked at his father’s practice and at that time developed a passion for dentistry. He earned his D.D.S. at Howard University in Washington, D.C. and went on to a general residency program at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY where he focused on treating both children and patients with special needs. Dr. Mark then returned to the Eastern Shore and worked with his father before joining TLC where he spent a few years as the Dental Director. In addition to providing him with greater depth and breadth of dental care for children, he came to appreciate the special care and technique that best suits patients with special needs and/or developmental challenges. This extra training well equips him to serve this special population, one of the few in the Salisbury area that has the capacity to do so.
Patients and their parents will appreciate the skilled and friendly service of the entire Krause Smiles team. Dealing with insurance can seem like a burden for parents, but the Krause office staff is trained to maximize your dental benefits by immediately filing your insurance claim to ensure timely and efficient processing on your behalf. Since the Krause team uses an electronic-billing process, most patients can receive insurance reimbursements within a few days, in most cases.
The Krause team also makes every effort to schedule your child’s dental appointments as conveniently as possible. They keep nearly every local school calendar on record so they are aware of school vacations and off-days to ensure that they are fully staffed and open to treat patients on those days. They also schedule siblings at the same time or back-to-back so parents can have multiple children treated in one visit.
