SACC to Host Maryland Redistricting Reform Luncheon

In January of 2021, Governor Hogan issued an Executive Order establishing the Maryland Citizens Redistricting Commission. The assignment is to redraw Congressional as well as General Assembly district maps that will guide the representation of legislative officials for the next decade.

The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce will host a special luncheon on the campus of Salisbury University on June 3, 2021 at 11:30AM, featuring Walter Olson, Co-Chair, Maryland Redistricting Commission.

Mr. Walter Olson is a Senior Fellow of the Cato Institute, a think tank in Washington D.C. Mr. Olson is an author, has testified before the United States Congress, has written articles for publications such as The Wall Street Journal and New York Times. His work on Tort Reform has often been discussed in the press and has been cited in court opinions. Olson has written about redistricting and gerrymandering.

In 2015, Olson was appointed by Governor Hogan as co-chair of the Maryland Redistricting Commission, which issues recommendations later that year for comprehensive reform.

The commission’s recommendations served as a basis for legislation Hogan has introduced since then in the Maryland legislature. Mr. Olson will speak about the current work of the Redistricting Commission and its potential impacts locally and Statewide.

This will be a socially distanced event and masks are required while not seated. Tickets are $25 for members, $35 for future members.
