Fisher Architecture’s Principal, Keith P. Fisher, AIA, LEED AP, recently attended an AIA Post-Disaster Safety-Assessment Program (SAP) training. The Safety Assessment Program Training is a technical training program that includes Applied Technology Council ATC-20, Post-earthquake Safety Evaluation of Buildings and ATC-45 Safety Evaluation of Buildings after Wind Storms and Floods. During his training, Mr. Fisher was provided the knowledge and protocol to evaluate homes, buildings, and infrastructure in the aftermath of a disaster. This professional expertise is provided as a volunteer service and is based on the State of California’s training program. It has benefited numerous communities, resulting in thousands of safety evaluations and saving municipalities millions of dollars.
Mr. Fisher hopes now that in the case that disaster strikes, he can volunteer his time to help communities in need determine whether the buildings are safe for habitation. Rehabilitation has been a strong interest for Mr. Fisher and his team. Recent rehabilitation projects include repurposing vacant buildings into a Surgery Center in Timonium, MD and a Laser Surgery Center in Bensalem, PA. In Easton, MD, Fisher Architecture was hired to provide full design services for Achievement Park. Formerly a printing facility that closed, the 200,000 square foot Cadmus Lane building was redeveloped to accommodate many of the mid-shore medical practices from the area into one central location. Other local rehabilitation projects designed by Fisher Architecture include the favorites, EVO Restaurant and the new Starbucks on Rt. 13.
