The Salisbury Chamber of Commerce, as part of an ongoing effort to provide value to its members, has partnered with CQI Associates to offer an Energy Co-op Program. The Energy Co-op program is a chamber member benefit completely free for both commercial and residential accounts. The program reduces utility rates for both electric and natural gas commodities. Individuals, their family, their staff, and their staff’s family area eligible to participate.

CQJ Associates, LLC is a Columbia, Maryland-based, licensed and bonded energy management and procurement firm which has been in business for more than two decades, aiding commercial and residential customers nationwide.

CQI Associates negotiates prices with licensed electricity and natural gas suppliers to get low rates for customers. The Commercial and Residential Energy Purchasing Cooperative is considered preferable to other options because of its express purpose of providing consumers savings, budget stability and choice. Every time a member joins the Commercial and Residential Energy Purchasing Cooperative it increases consumer purchasing power that results in giving consumers, individually and collectively, the power of purchasing electric and natural gas at more affordable, consistent rates and at prices usually lower than what is available to the individual business.

In instances of loss of power consumers would still call their local distribution company. The maintenance process does not change. CQI works with Delmarva Power in Maryland and Delaware, BGE, PEPCO MD, Potomac Edison, and Washington Gas MD & DC. These companies remain the distributors of power, maintain the lines, and read the meters; CQI is solely the broker for the energy supply.

The City of Salisbury and the Town of Ocean City are also members of the Energy Management Comprehensive Program, as well as other Chambers of Commerce throughout the state of Maryland. CQI is known for its 95% customer retention rate.

According to company literature, the average co-op member saves about the equivalent of their July electrical bill and/or their February natural gas bill when compared to utility standard offer services rates.
