Festivities Include Ribbon Cutting, Reception & Artists Downtown Exhibition

Salisbury Art Space, formerly The Art Institute & Gallery, is celebrating its 65th anniversary. The year-long celebration will include a special exhibition, Artists Downtown, which showcases and pays tribute to artists whose work has brought new energy and vibrancy to Downtown Salisbury. The show will be presented from May 5 – June 9, with a ribbon-cutting and anniversary reception scheduled from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, May 18 in association with the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce.

Another special attraction, the 2018 Congressional Art Competition will be on display in the Robinson Gallery. The display features submissions from students from Maryland’s First Congressional District, which spans from Western Carroll County to the Virginia state line on the Delmarva Peninsula. Students submitted entries to Congressman Andy Harris’s office, and district artists will select the winning entry. The winner will be recognized in the district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. In addition, the winning work will be displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol along with those of the other winners from across the nation.

“As we mark our 65th year of service to the community and celebrate our organization’s rich history, it is particularly exciting to showcase the work of artists of all ages – artists who have displayed their work in our gallery over the years, as well as emerging young artists who are bringing new energy and creativity to our downtown art scene,” said Alison Grice, SAS Executive Director. “Both exhibitions on display are shining examples of the Salisbury Art Space mission of “Art for All.”

Salisbury Art Space is located in the Gallery Building at 212 West Main Street in Salisbury. For more information about SAS exhibitions or upcoming classes, call 410-546-4748.
