Salisbury- The City of Salisbury is proud to announce that it has been selected by the Maryland Energy Administration as a Maryland Smart Energy Community grantee for the 2020 fiscal year. The City has been awarded a $50,000 grant in order to continue the previously successful MSEC project of converting City streetlights to LED. This conversion of over 150 lighting fixtures around the City to LED is expected to save the City 122,092 kWh annually.
“We are excited to be included in this year’s list of grant recipients and especially grateful to be able to continue Salisbury’s commitment to being a Smart Energy Community,” shared Amanda Pollack, Salisbury’s Director of Infrastructure and Development.
The Maryland Smart Energy Communities Program aims to support local governments and recognize leaders in energy conservation across the state of Maryland. Participating municipalities work to adopt smart energy policies and plans, as well as long-term and attainable smart energy goals.
According to the Maryland Energy Administration, converting to LED light fixtures can reduce the high utility cost of street lighting, without sacrificing the safety, comfort, and convenience that street lights offer to communities.
