Every October the Salisbury Fire Department designs pink t-shirts to sell to members of the department and to the public. The career personnel wear them while on duty the entire month of October to show support and bring awareness to the community. In addition to the t-shirt sales, the Department holds a city employee cornhole tournament. All of the sales from the shirts and funds from the tournament are donated to Women Supporting Women(WSW), a local non-profit organization helping women with breast cancer. This year the Department raised $2,384 which was used to purchase the Breast Cancer Handbooks found in WSW’s “Newly Diagnosed” informational totebags. The Salisbury Fire Department responds to approximately 700 EMS and 300 fire calls per month, which has a significant impact on the public. This is a great example of local organizations helping each other.
