Salisbury Has Lost a Legendary Reporter and Friend

Sadly, our long-time Chamber member and friend Greg Bassett passed away on December 10, 2023.

Before his death, Bassett was managing editor of INI’s Salisbury Independent, Dorchester Banner, Crisfield-Somerset County Times, and BaytoBayNews.com.

Greg was a highly revered career journalist who founded the Salisbury Independent, along with friend Darel La Prade, in 2014.

Before the Independent, Greg was a fixture with the Daily Times newspaper. This is a devasting loss for our region. Aside from his professional life, Greg was a friend to many, a loving father of two, and a staunch supporter of this community.

As a journalist, Greg’s work embodied the highest standards of professionalism in his accurate and unbiased reporting. That work had an incredible impact on the mission of his publication and the region that the publication served.

A 2016 Chamber of Commerce Award Recipient, Greg was an outstanding member and supporter of the chamber. He provided media coverage, served as the emcee at many chamber events, and supported our chamber members and regional business community through coverage in the monthly Chamber pages.

Greg was a positive spirit, caring man, and loyal friend; he will be forever missed. The Chamber Board of Directors, staff, and members extend our deepest condolences to his children, Will and Annie, his family, coworkers, and many friends.
