Salisbury – The Maryland Municipal League (MML) announced today that Salisbury Mayor Jake Day has been elected to serve as its President for the 2021-2022 term. The election, typically held at MML’s annual conference, was conducted online for the first time in the organization’s history.
Presidents of the MML Board of Directors work together with staff to help determine the organization’s legislative priorities for the year. Municipalities are encouraged to submit up to three (3) legislative action requests for consideration as MML initiatives before the Maryland General Assembly. The organization also offers extensive training and educational programs for municipal representative members.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve my fellow municipal leaders,” said Mayor Day. “Over the next two years, I am eager to work with President Jones, Past President Spiegel and the rest of the MML leadership team to best fight for municipalities in Annapolis, and to share the great work they are doing.”
Presidents of the MML Board of Directors serve a 1-year term. Prior Presidents of the Board of Directors from Salisbury include former Councilman Gary Comegys (2010/2011), and former Mayor Barrie Tilghman (2004/2005). Mayor Day’s term will last from July 2021 – July 2022.
The Mayor added, “Our cities and towns will be the successful facilitators of recovery from a once in a generation public health and economic battle, and they will be the laboratories in which we reckon with injustice and hate and redesign our institutions to create equality and opportunity for all people. I look forward to carrying the torch, and continuing to beat the drum that cities solve problems.”
