Salisbury Neighborhood Housing Services Highlights Neighborhood Change During NeighborWorks Week

NWW 2020 - SNHS SIGN

SALISBURY, MD – May 29, 2020 – Salisbury Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. will offer various activities and informational sessions as part of a weeklong celebration of neighborhood improvement activities nationally recognized as NeighborWorks Week.

During NeighborWorks Week (June 6-13), NeighborWorks organizations across the country will focus on neighborhood change and awareness and host several events that educate, train and inform their local residents. The events demonstrate the value of neighbors helping neighbors. Salisbury Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. will be offering a local mobile food pantry in partnership with The Maryland Food Bank and Lower Eastern Shore Salvation Army, along with an upcoming virtual Homebuyer Education Class. Residents can also follow along on social media to view tips and updates on the housing industry, explanation of mortgage payment options and more.

Executive Director, Cheryl Meadows feels “this week is important because it brings awareness to what our organization ensures. We provide a service that many people may not realize they need when it comes to housing. It is especially essential during the pandemic because many of our residents could be facing foreclosure or are in need of understanding a forbearance agreement. Even if our client is not a homeowner, we can still educate them on the process, how to manage their budget and staying on track with their credit.”

Along with the informational aspect, the agency recognizes the need for community development within targeted communities. The most current housing opportunities are on Maryland Avenue where an acquisition-rehabilitation project is taking place and on Rose Street where a house constructed by local high school students was recently positioned for sale within the coming months.

SNHS is part of the national NeighborWorks network, an affiliation of nearly 250 nonprofit organizations located in every state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In fiscal year 2019, the NeighborWorks network provided 457,200 housing and counseling services; owned and managed 173,700 rental homes; and created 47,100 jobs. The NeighborWorks network was founded and is supported by NeighborWorks America, which creates opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities.
