Salisbury, MD — It is with profound sadness that the City of Salisbury announces the death of Salisbury Police Department Senior Corporal Ryan Mitchell, who unexpectedly passed away. He was found in his home Friday.

Sr. Cpl. Mitchell began his career with the City of Salisbury in 1995. During his tenure with decades of dedication he served in the City’s Operations Division on Patrol, was a long-time member of the Tactical Unit, and a detective in the Criminal Investigation Division as well as the Child Advocacy Center. Most recently, he was assigned as a patrol supervisor assisting in the supervision and development of officers.

Salisbury Mayor Randy Taylor knew Mitchell and was saddened to hear the news. “Corporal Mitchell was a valued member of the City of Salisbury’s Police Department. I would like to personally extend my sincere sympathies to his family. Ryan will be greatly missed,” Taylor said.

The department is working closely with the family to provide support during this difficult time. Out of respect for their privacy, we will not be releasing further personal details at this time.

Salisbury Police Chief Dave Meienschein highlights that in a close-knit department, this loss impacts every member of the department. “Our hearts are heavy as our SPD family mourns the passing of Senior Corporal Ryan Mitchell. As a 30 year veteran, he touched so many as a leader, mentor and friend. His passing creates a void that will be difficult to overcome,” Meinscheien said.

In a post, the department memorialized their fallen comrade saying:

S/Cpl. Mitchell was a dedicated public servant and dear friend to those of us here at SPD. He served our community with integrity, compassion, and commitment. S/Cpl. Mitchell will be deeply missed by fellow officers, friends, and the many others whose lives he touched throughout his career. Ryan’s sense of humor, smile, wisdom and culinary prowess are irreplaceable and were ever present with those around him.

Funeral arrangements and memorial services are being finalized. We ask the community to keep Mitchell’s family, friends, colleagues, and all those who mourn in your thoughts and prayers.
