Dover, DE — Scouting America’s Del-Mar-Va Council has launched its most ambitious outreach campaign in years, a region-wide initiative designed to connect families with one of the nation’s longest-standing youth development programs.

The campaign, titled “Prepared. For Life!”, marks the first phase of a year-long effort to reach parents and families across Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.  Through a coordinated mix of digital, broadcast, and community engagement, the campaign will highlight how Scouting helps young people build character, leadership, and lifelong skills.

“This campaign is about reminding families what Scouting truly offers,” said Ray Teat, executive director of Scouting America’s Del-Mar-Va Council. “It’s one of the best decisions a family can make for their child — not just for today, but for the future.”

Over the next six weeks, the campaign will generate more than 3 million impressions across the Delmarva Peninsula, targeting communities with active Scout units and expanding awareness in new areas.

Multi-Platform Community Outreach

The campaign will feature:

  • Digital display advertising in local communities
  • Radio placements across Delaware, Maryland and Virginia
  • Streaming television ads on platforms including Roku and YouTube
  • Local programming integrations, including appearances on regional talk shows and lifestyle programs
  • Features on digital news platforms such as Delaware LIVE and Milford LIVE
  • Social media outreach through Instagram, Facebook Reels and live content
  • In-person engagement at community events such as the Wilmington Flower Market and regional expos

Teat said the strategy reflects a renewed investment in meeting families where they are — both online and in their communities.

Building Skills That Last a Lifetime

At the core of the campaign is a simple message: Scouting prepares young people for life.

“Prepared. For Life!” means young people gain the confidence, character, and real-world skills they need to succeed well beyond childhood.

Confidence and Capability
Scouting helps youth learn how to solve problems, lead others, and take on challenges — building resilience and independence that carry into adulthood.

Practical Life Skills
Scouts develop essential skills such as teamwork, communication, time management, and goal setting — the same skills that drive success in school, careers, and relationships.

A Strong Community for Families
Scouting connects families with positive role models and a network of like-minded parents and youth across communities like Milford, Wilmington, and beyond.

Character in Action
Values such as trustworthiness, kindness, and responsibility are not just taught — they are practiced through service, leadership, and everyday participation.

Preparation for the Future
Scouting prepares young people for college, careers, leadership roles, and lifelong community involvement.

Through activities such as camping, hiking, cooking, and robotics, Scouts develop practical skills and personal confidence that extend far beyond childhood:

  • Camping builds resilience, independence, and problem-solving in real-world situations
  • Hiking teaches perseverance, goal-setting, and self-discipline
  • Cooking develops responsibility, planning, and self-sufficiency
  • Robotics and STEM programs foster innovation, collaboration, and future-ready skills

Scouting leaders say these experiences help young people grow into confident individuals who can lead, adapt, and contribute to their communities.

“We’re seeing a growing interest in Scouting across the Delmarva community,” Teat said. “Families are looking for opportunities that build confidence, character, and real-world readiness — and that’s exactly what Scouting delivers.”

A Showcase Moment: 2026 Del-Mar-Va Council Jamboree

The campaign will build momentum toward one of the council’s largest events in years — the 2026 Del-Mar-Va Council Jamboree, scheduled for April 24–26 at Akridge Scout Reservation in Dover, Delaware.

Held under the theme “A Declaration of Adventure,” the three-day event will bring together Scouts, families, and community partners for a hands-on celebration of leadership, service, and outdoor adventure.

Over a thousand people, including Scouts, families, and friends from across the region, are expected to attend.

As part of America’s 250th anniversary commemoration, this event will feature living history demonstrations, educational programming, and community engagement activities designed to showcase the full Scouting program.

Using a Declaration of Adventure Passport, everyone will have the opportunity to visit focus areas (history stops, crafts, activities, skill challenges) in each of the four historical timeframes: The Colonial Period, The Antebellum-Civil War Period, The Reconstruction-WWII Period, The Cold War-Future Period.

  • Patriotic Pathways: immersive stations exploring colonial life, civic responsibility and Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia’s role in America’s founding
  • History Stops: led by many participating agencies and organizations such as the Delaware Historical Society, First State Heritage Park, 1st Delaware Regiment, Hagley Museum, Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park, Frederick Douglass Honor Society, and many other cultural institutions
  • Crafts: Colonial period tricorn hats, quill pens, corn husk action figures, scent cache, candle making, bracelets, tie-dye shirts, etc.
  • Activities: Colonial games, STEM demonstrations, coding activities, engineering challenges, and technology exhibits connecting Scouting to future careers
  • Skill Challenges: Pinewood Derby, range and target activities, canoeing, climbing, pioneering, cooking, orienteering, fishing, communicating using Morse Code and signaling
  • Community & Public Safety Demonstrations: car show by Del Rods Car Club; interactive exhibits with local fire, police, EMS, and conservation agencies

The event will also be open to the public for day visits, offering families a firsthand look at the Scouting experience.

Preparing the Next Generation

“‘Prepared. For Life!’ is more than a slogan,” Teat said. “It’s a promise that Scouting is helping young people become capable, confident adults — ready for college, careers, leadership and service.”

As the campaign rolls out across Delmarva, Scouting America hopes to inspire a new generation of families to discover the value of the program — and to see firsthand how Scouting continues to shape communities across the region.
