SECU Celebrates 75 Years of Service with Anniversary Celebration

SECU celebrates 75th anniversary
Salisbury, MD – The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, joined by Chamber members, local elected officials, and community leaders, was honored to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of SECU during a special event held on October 14 at SECU’s Salisbury Branch.
The celebration recognized SECU’s longstanding commitment to providing accessible, member-focused financial services throughout Maryland and its deep roots in the Salisbury community. In October 1951, SECU was born in downtown Baltimore, and its first member was the former MD Governor Theodore R. McKeldin.  Today, SECU proudly serves nearly 270,000 members through 25 Financial Centers, more than 50,000 free ATMs, and convenient mobile and online banking services. The Salisbury branch has served the area for 44 years, helping generations of individuals, families, and businesses achieve their financial goals.
Financial Center Manager Cathy Donoway welcomed guests and reflected on both the credit union’s history and her own remarkable tenure with the organization.   “SECU is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year,” said Donoway. “We have been here in Salisbury for 44 years, and out of those 44 years, I have worked here for 41. It’s a great place to work. We offer financial services to everyone, whether they are state employees or not, including savings and checking accounts, auto loans, mortgages, home equity loans, credit cards, and much more.”
Donoway also highlighted the credit union’s member-first philosophy, noting that SECU strives to return value directly to its members through competitive rates and personalized service. “As a credit union, we are able to give back to our members by offering higher interest on deposits and lower interest on loans,” she said. “We also go out into the community and workplaces to provide financial education so they can make informed financial decisions.”
As part of the anniversary celebration, SECU received numerous recognitions and citations honoring its 75 years of service. Presentations were made by, or on behalf of, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, Maryland State Senator Mary Beth Carozza, Maryland Secretary of Commerce Harry Coker, Jr. through representative Mindie Burgoyne, Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano, Wicomico County Council Vice President Jeff Merritt, the Wicomico County House Delegation, and Council President April Jackson on behalf of the Salisbury City Council.
During the event, guests also enjoyed a delicious spread provided by Chamber member Joe’s La Roma, adding to the festive atmosphere as community leaders and supporters gathered to commemorate this significant milestone.
