Salisbury, Maryland — SHORE UP was recently recognized for its outstanding contributions to the community at the 2025 Maryland Community Action Partnership (MCAP) Conference, taking home several prestigious honors that highlight the agency’s dedication to service, leadership, and impact.
Among the standout moments was the agency’s receipt of the Crisis Response Champion award, presented by Maryland Department of Human Services Secretary Rafael López. The honor recognizes SHORE UP for exemplary leadership in times of need, particularly in the face of this year’s changes to energy assistance benefits and the surge in client applications. The certificate praises the agency for modeling the values of the Moore-Miller Administration and delivering results that matter for Marylanders.
Odetta Evans, a longtime SHORE UP team member, received an Individual Staff Award for her professionalism, compassion, and steady presence. Known for her solution-focused approach and deep commitment to clients, Evans is a trusted resource and role model throughout the agency. Her recognition underscores the essential role staff play in SHORE UP’s mission.
Volunteerism was also in the spotlight, with Denise Lewis, SHORE UP board member and co-chair of the Foster Grandparent Advisory Committee, nominated for her extraordinary leadership. Lewis’s creativity and energy have powered numerous volunteer projects—from collecting eyeglasses for the Lions Club to organizing handmade cards for local nursing home residents.
In addition, SHORE UP’s Foster Grandparent Program volunteers were honored for their commitment to children with special needs in schools across the Lower Shore. These senior volunteers not only provide one-on-one academic support but also serve as mentors and advocates in their communities. Their consistent outreach and quiet acts of service continue to make a profound difference.
