Inc., a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site, offers free preparation of both state and federal income tax returns and free electronic filing for qualifying families and individuals with a total household income under $53,000/yr. for 2014. Taxes are done by appointment only, January 21 – April 11, 2015 at both Wicomico and Somerset County sites. To make an appointment for free tax preparation and e-filing, call 410-749-1142 weekdays.
In Wicomico County, taxes will be done:
- at SHORE UP!, 520 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804
- Wednesday, January 21 through Saturday, April 11, 2015.
- Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:30-8 p.m.
- Saturdays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
- In Somerset County, taxes will be done:
- at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Student Development Center in the Upward Bound Meeting Room on the second floor, in Princess Anne, MD 21853
- Tuesday Feb. 3 – Tuesday March 31, 2015.
- Tuesdays 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and Thursdays 3-7:30 p.m.Tax returns are prepared by IRS-certified volunteers and staff. Volunteers are needed not only to do taxes (training is provided) but also to help make appointments, file, serve as a receptionist, etc. Hours are flexible. Anyone wishing to volunteer should call 410-749-1142.
- In addition to tax preparation, customers will have an opportunity to participate in financial education. Also, the project will have Health Navigators on hand at various times to speak with individuals needing assistance signing up for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act.
- Those wishing to have their taxes prepared will be told what documents are needed when they make an appointment. Qualifying individuals from all MD counties can have their state and federal taxes done; state returns can be done for DE and VA residents.
