
Snow Hill, MD — In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, and in cooperation with the Maryland Two Fifty Commission, the Mayor of Snow Hill, in partnership with the Mayor’s Round Table, is pleased to announce the launch of a Citizens Academy.
The Citizens Academy is a free educational program designed for residents of Snow Hill who are interested in learning how their town government works, meeting local elected officials, and discovering meaningful opportunities for civic engagement. The program’s primary goal is to encourage informed and active participation in local government and community life.
Participants will receive an overview of key municipal functions and community services, including Planning, Police, Fire, Public Schools, the Historic District, Economic Development/Main Street initiatives, and Technology. Through presentations and discussions, residents will gain a deeper understanding of how these departments operate and how citizens can play an active role in shaping the future of Snow Hill.
The Citizens Academy reflects Snow Hill’s commitment to transparency, education, and community engagement as the nation commemorates this historic milestone.
Dates of the Academy:
March 11: Opening Meeting, Introductions and Technology
March 25: Fire and Police- At the Fire House
April 8: Historic District and Planning, Zoning & Building Department
April 22: Public Schools and Economic Development/Main Street Downtown
May 6: Tour of Public Works and the Wastewater Treatment Plant
May 20: Graduation
All participants must attend 2 Town Hall meetings or Commissions.
All meetings will be held at the Town Hall Annex, located at 309 N. Washington Street, Snow Hill, Maryland, starting at 6:00 p.m.
