The City of Crisfield will be looking even better than usual due to four local businesses receiving $9,100 in grant funds to improve the look of their buildings and properties.
The Facade and Business Improvement Program, funded by the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) for Sustainable Communities, will provide the following awardees with grant money for their projects once approved by the Maryland Historical Trust:
- 1104 W. Main Street, (Water’s Edge Cafe);
- 527 W. Main Street, (Black Eyed Susans);
- 938 W. Main Street, (Laird Real Estate); and
- 38 W. Main Street, (Lady Grace Bed and Breakfast)
The Facade projects range from new windows and awnings to freshly painted stucco. There will be new roofs and the addition of ramps to make businesses not only more eye-catching and more accessible for all patrons, but which also provide stimulation to a business owner’s private investment. Many of the projects funded by the grants are part of a larger, overall improvement project the owners are interested in completing for their commercial space.
It’s very exciting to see this opportunity provided by the City of Crisfield and the Maryland government to our hard-working local business owners and we hope to get additional money to support facade improvements for even more businesses later this year.
The City of Crisfield will be applying for another round of funding from DHCD by June 29, 2023 for $75,000.00 in order to fund even more business facades throughout Crisfield.
“The Community Legacy program provides local governments and community development organizations with funding for essential projects aimed at strengthening communities through activities such as business retention and attraction, encouraging homeownership and commercial revitalization.” (from Maryland.gov).
