Salisbury, MD – The Salisbury University club basketball team is going dancing!

In just its second year in existence, the team finished second in the National Club Basketball Association’s (NCBBA) Mid-Atlantic Conference to qualify for the NCBBA regional tournament. The team ended the regular season with an 8-2 overall record and a 6-2 mark in conference play.

The top two teams in each of the region’s four conferences qualified for the regional tournament in early April, hosted by the University of Virginia.

The SU squad started the season strong, and it was that hot start that led to a No. 5 ranking in the NCBBA Tytan Top 20 poll and ultimately the tie-breaker that got it into the tournament.

Tied with Loyola (MD) University and the U.S. Naval Academy with 6-2 conference records, each team had beaten the others in round-robin scheduling. Loyola claimed the tie-breaker for fewest points allowed in conference games, leading to a new look at Salisbury and Navy for a tie-breaker for the final playoff spot. SU earned wins against Navy in November, and those early victories gave SU the playoff berth.

Vinnie Morin, the club president, leads the team, which has seen success this year with three National Player of the Week honors. Mason Porter, Sidney Lebonzo and Dylan Bright all earned Player of the Week accolades. Bright, a returner to the squad, also claimed the honor last season.

Senior leadership is provided by Dorian Boyce, A.J. Sims, Sheldon Whitaker and Trevell Jones. Sophomore Liam Hayden and freshmen Dionte Hynson II and Carson Conrad round out the squad.

SU is searching for three wins at the regional tournament, which would mean a trip to Erie, PA, for the NCBBA National Championship Tournament later in April.
