SU Presidential Inauguration Week Schedule Announced May 1-5

SALISBURY, MD — Salisbury University celebrates the inauguration of Dr. Carolyn Ringer Lepre as the institution’s 10th President with a week of festive activities May 1-6.

Events span from student and alumni activities; to celebrations of diversity, equity and inclusion; to musical performances and academic presentations. The schedule includes:

Monday, May 1

  • Noon-1:30 p.m., The Square – Meet and greet with President Lepre: Campus community members are invited to sample a special “Salisberry” pie and take home a commemorative SU President’s pin. (Rain location: Commons Lobby)
  • *3-6 p.m., Pergola, Guerrieri Student Union and Link of Nations – International Fair and Multicultural Festival: International students and those who have studied abroad present traditional foods from their home and visited countries during this annual SU tradition.
  • *7 p.m., Conway Hall Room 153 – Changing Climate/Changing World Lecture Series: This semester’s “The Future of Food” series continues with a presentation on the future of organic agriculture by Dr. Mike Lewis, SU professor of environmental studies, and area farmers Jay and Heather Martin.

Tuesday, May 2

  • Noon, Commons, Worcester Room – Diversity, Equity and Inclusion lunch and lecture
  • *2 p.m., Commons, Worcester Room – President’s Diversity and Inclusion Awards presentation

Wednesday, May 3

  • *10 a.m.-3 p.m., Holloway Hall, Great Hall – SU Symposium: “Forward with Excellence: A Celebration of Academics at Salisbury University”
  • 10 a.m. – “Defining Excellence: Imagining SU’s Future”
  • Noon – “Achieving Excellence: Research as a High-Impact Practice”
  • 2 p.m. – “Recognizing Excellence: A Conversation with SU’s Recent University System of Maryland Board of Regents’ Faculty Award Recipients”
  • 3:30-5 p.m., Holloway Hall Social Room – Celebration of Faculty reception
  • 4 p.m., Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons Board Room – SU Alumni Association board meeting
  • *6-7:30 p.m. – Guerrieri Academic Commons Assembly Hall – Alumni reception (open to all alumni)

Thursday, May 4

  • 10 a.m.-noon, Guerrieri Academic Commons near The Square – Cancer comfort kits service activity: SU community volunteers assemble cancer comfort kits for TidalHealth patients. (Rain location: Commons Lobby)
  • 1-3 p.m., Henson Science Hall Plaza – Student Celebration: Activities include photo ops, lawn games and free ice cream treats. (Rain location: Guerrieri Student Union, Fireside Lounge)
  • *7:30 p.m., Holloway Hall Auditorium – SU Jazz Ensemble concert: Jerry Tabor, SU professor of music, directs. Admission is $10; $5 for seniors; free for SU faculty, staff and students, and non-SU students with ID.

Friday, May 5

  • *10 a.m., The Square – Presidential installation ceremony: RSVP at www.salisbury.edu/inauguration (Rain location: Holloway Hall Auditorium)
  • *Noon-1:30 p.m., Holloway Hall Lawn – Lunch on the Lawn (Rain location: Commons)
  • *1-2:30 p.m., Holloway Hall Lawn – SU Arboretum walking tours (departing approximately every 30 minutes)

Saturday, May 6

  • 5-9 p.m. – Grad Gala, Guerrieri Academic Commons Assembly Hall
  • *7:30 p.m., Holloway Hall Auditorium – “University and Salisbury Chorales Celebrate the Gospel and Spiritual Style” concert: Dr. William Folger, SU director of choral studies, directs. Admission is $10; $5 for seniors; free for SU faculty, staff and students, and non-SU students with ID.
