Salisbury, MD – For nearly two decades, Dr. Dane Foust has been a familiar face to a generation of students at Salisbury University.

Most recently serving as SU’s vice president of student affairs for the past 13 years, Foust recently announced plans to retire at the end of the 2024-25 academic year.

“Dr. Foust’s leadership, wisdom, and deep commitment to SU’s mission have enriched our university in immeasurable ways,” said SU President Carolyn Ringer Lepre. “While we will miss his presence on campus, we take comfort in knowing that his contributions will have a lasting impact on generations of Sea Gulls to come.”

Foust came to SU as associate vice president of student affairs in 2006, providing leadership in the division’s assessment and fiscal management areas, and overseeing SU’s Student Health Services, Career Services, Counseling, and Disability Resource centers. He also played a significant role in the development of SU’s Sea Gull Square mixed-use residential and retail complex, opened in 2011.

That year, he was appointed interim vice president, earning the position on a permanent basis in 2012. In that role, he led the development of SU’s strategic enrollment plan, as well as the Student Affairs Division’s first outcomes-based strategic plan and a comprehensive campus wellness program. He also has been instrumental in the renovation of SU’s traditional residence halls and in emergency preparedness on campus.

In addition to the areas noted above, he also currently oversees the Office of Housing and Residence Life, University Dining Services, Conference Services, the Guerrieri Student Union, the SU Bookstore, the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership, TRIO Student Support Services, the SU Bookstore, and the SU Cares case management office.

Beyond SU, Foust is an accreditor for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and an affiliate faculty member in the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Doctor of Education Leadership Program. A graduate of Leadership Maryland, he also has served with Shore Leadership, an initiative facilitating positive change on the Eastern Shore through public-private partnerships.

Prior to coming to SU, he held positions at Mount Aloysius College in Pennsylvania, the Semester at Sea program sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh, the State University of New York College at Oneonta, and Pennsylvania State University.

He holds an Ed.D. in higher education administration from Pennsylvania State University, and an M.A. in student affairs in higher education and B.S. in journalism from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
