Salisbury, MD – For the second time, Dr. Chrys Egan, associate dean of Salisbury University’s Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts, has been named among Maryland’s Top 100 Women by The Daily Record and BridgeTower Media.
The Baltimore-based newspaper selected honorees who have made an impact through their leadership, community service and mentoring. The list is selected by past Top 100 Women recipients and business leaders. Egan also received the honor in 2019.
“In her leadership positions at SU and beyond, Dr. Egan is a role model for many of our students and faculty alike,” said SU President Carolyn Ringer Lepre, a previous Maryland’s Top 100 Women honoree. “Her hard work in the Fulton School and the Communication Department, and with students at every level, is reflected in the success of the many students and alumni she has mentored throughout her SU career.”
In addition to her roles as associate dean of the Fulton School and professor of communication, Egan has served as director of SU’s Youth Innovation Academy and co-director of the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (OURCA). She also has served as president of SU’s Faculty Senate and as a Business, Economic and Community Outreach Network (BEACON) Scholar in Residence in SU’s Franklin P. Perdue School of Business.
At SU, she also has taught more than 40 courses and mentored over 100 students. She has earned the University’s Distinguished Faculty, Outstanding Research Mentor and President’s Faculty awards, as well as the President’s Diversity and Inclusion Champions Award, Student Government Association Outstanding Faculty Award and SU Alumni Association Faculty Appreciation Award.
Beyond campus, she has received the University System of Maryland Board of Regents Award for excellence in mentoring and the International Leadership Association’s (ILA’s) Women and Leadership Outstanding Practice with Local Impact Award. She is a 2021 graduate of Leadership Maryland.
Egan is the chair-elect of the ILA Public Leadership Community and the ILA conference chair for leadership development. She has 40 academic publications and 50 popular press articles on communication, leadership, and culture. She is co-editor of the book Pathways into the Political Arena: The Perspectives of Global Women Leaders. She also co-edited a special issue of Merits international journal on “Changing Realities for Women and Work” and is co-editing the ILA book series Transformative Women Leaders.
Egan earned her B.A. in English at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, her M.A. in communication from the University of North Carolina Greensboro and her Ph.D. in communication from Florida State University.
