Salisbury, MD — Some 65 students recently vied for top honors during Salisbury University’s Mid-Atlantic Sales and Marketing Institute’s (MASMI’s) 12th biannual sales championship competition. The event included two contests, one for overall sales and one for elevator pitches.

Ella Messick of St. Petersburg, FL, received $1,000 for her first-place finish in the overall sales competition. Runners-up included Adrian Todd of Hurlock, MD, in second place ($500); Cory Heffner of Hanover, PA, in third ($300 plus $100 for best resume); and Robert Kesselring of Hagerstown, MD, in fourth ($200).

Carter Darrington of Olney, MD, topped competitors in the elevator pitch session, taking home a $300 prize. He was followed by Kai Bender of Crofton, MD, in second ($200); and Emma Abromavage of Fairfax, MD, in third ($100).

Winners were decided by judges, buyers and observers representing MASMI sponsors and local businesses. The event followed an “etiquette dinner” for the students and corporate partners, also hosted by the institute and SU’s Franklin P. Perdue School of Business.

Pohanka of Salisbury was the product sponsor. The four finalists were tasked with selling to Daniel Fitzgerald, general manager.

Some 23 additional MASMI sponsors sent their senior-level executives to take part in the event.
