The Talbot County Community Center expansion is moving forward with plans to build a new gymnasium-auditorium after unanimous approval by the Talbot County Council. The expansion will be built to adhere to the guidelines set by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED Silver protocol. Davis, Bowen & Friedel, Inc. is currently assisting the county with this project by providing architecture, civil and structural engineering services.
The expansion will consist of 18,900 additional SF and will house two high school regulation sized basketball courts with bleachers for home and visitor spectators, as well as three high school regulation sized volleyball courts when the basketball courts are not in use. In addition to the new courts, the space will include two new restrooms and extra storage space to house equipment for the entire community center.
The additional recreational space will allow the community center to accommodate more civic events and indoor sports activities such as pickleball, volleyball and basketball. The facility’s heating system will be supplied by an extension of the facility’s existing water source heat pump system. “We are pleased to once again assist the Talbot County Community Center with their expansion that will allow the center to accommodate the growing need for space for premier sporting and community events,” said Project Manager and Lead DBF Architect, Chris Cullen, AIA.
