Technology in the hands

When I heard about the Amazon Dash and Amazon Dash Button, I can’t exactly say I was surprised that Amazon would debut products with such capabilities. If you haven’t heard about the Amazon Dash or Dash Button, the two devices are meant to simplify your shopping experience. The Amazon Dash, while not available in our area yet, has a scanner that allows purchasing of products by scanning the barcode or by using the built-in microphone to say what it is that you would like to order. These items are then delivered to your door and makes it so you no longer even need to go to the grocery store for everyday food items. The Dash Button is a similar concept, but meant for the other items you frequently use. The list of eligible items varies from trash bags and laundry detergent to baby food and coffee. The Dash Button is connected to your home Wi-Fi and then allows you to re-order the products you frequently use with the press of a button.
To learn more about these products, visit www.amazon.com/dash and www.amazon.com/dash-button respectively.
This idea is expanding to product lines as well. New products are being created with the ability to automatically re-order replacement parts and the whole “internet of things” idea is coming to fruition. Some of the products already announced are Brother printers, Brita water filters and Whirlpool washers and dryers. So now you will no longer need to order that replacement filter for your Brita pitcher or that ink for your printer, they will order it for themselves.
Who knows, maybe soon we won’t even need to leave our houses for anything… Sound familiar?
