The Haitian Development Center of Delmarva inaugurates new headquarters in Salisbury

Opening of Haitian Development Center

The SACC, its members, and the community at large were delighted to join The Haitian Development Center of Delmarva (HDCD) on December 17 as the cut the ribbon to their new headquarters located at 350 Cypress Street in Salisbury, MD.

Guests were welcomed by the Executive Director, Rev. Roosevelt Toussaint, his staff, and board members, who have worked very hard to make this dream come true.  Rev. Toussaint expressed his sincere thanks to The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore, The Hanson Foundation, The Perdue Foundation and The Parker Foundation, the community and most importantly to his staff, board members and volunteers for their assistance and support.

Over the past few decades, Wicomico County and the Eastern Shore at large has experienced an influx of Haitian immigrants. As the population continues to grow, community leaders deemed it necessary to create an organization that could cater to the Haitian community on the Delmarva Peninsula.  The Haitian Development Center of Delmarva (HDCD) was founded by a group of Haitian leaders in the community in 2018, and its mission is to assist, educate, and empower immigrant communities to better themselves in all aspects ranging from education, health, business ownership, and finances.

Rev. Toussaint shared with the guests that “The HDCD serves as a resource center for current Haitians living in the community and those who are planning on moving into the area.  HDCD seeks to connect Haitian immigrants to services in the community that can help improve their quality of life.  This includes but is not limited to providing help on learning English as a second language, getting employment, housing, medical referrals, and other socials services.”

The festive event was decorated in the colors of the Haitian flag, had a live band performing, as well as a wide spread of delicious food many of which were reflective of the Haitian culture.

Door prizes included beautiful art pieces native to Haiti.
