The Salisbury School Celebrates Over 50 Years of Educational Excellence

Dozens of Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce members, business leaders, and local and regional representatives, celebrated 50+ years of educational excellence at The Salisbury School during the May 12th Business After Hours. Go Dragons!

Guests were welcomed by SACC 2009 Past President and now Chairman of The Salisbury School Board of Trustees, Scott Robertson.  He introduced Head of School, Beverly Dearing; Lower School Head, Dr. Andrea Vandiver;  Upper School Head, Sandy Boyd; and Director of Admissions, Gail Carozza.

Scott’s wife Laura attended TSS, and his 2 daughters are currently attending the upper school. As Chairman of the Board of Trustees, he is fully committed to the mission of the school.

He shared that the Salisbury School is a college preparatory school, with a very nurturing environment in the Lower School, that revolves around the Library, where the Business After Hours took place. The Upper school focuses on the academic side and evolves from nurturing to mentoring and preparing the students for general and college life.

Robertson shared, “The Salisbury School is an innovative, award-winning educational institution for Pre-K through 12th grade based in Salisbury, MD.    For 50 years, parents have trusted us to help their children develop academic excellence, exemplary character, and a lifelong passion for learning. Their whole-child approach and experiential, college-bound curriculum develop caring, confident students who are prepared to thrive as global citizens.  They provide every child with an exceptional and personal learning experience that nurtures their body, mind, and spirit — whether in-person or through distance learning.”

All members of the community are expected to work to their full potential placing the highest priority on building self-confidence and developing the whole child in a secure and caring environment. TSS students learn to think critically, work collaboratively, problem-solve and embrace differing ideas and perspectives. The Salisbury School helps students develop the habits of mind that empower them to successfully navigate a changing world.

Academics are divided into lower, middle, and upper school, with college counseling starting in freshmen year.  Current clubs and organizations available include Student Government, Ivy League Model United Nations, Mock Trial, National Honor Society, Yearbook, The Literary Magazine, Art Honor Society, Music Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Math Olympiad, Chorus, Intra-club Council, Key Club, Academic Challenge Team, Green Club, Ping Pong, and Dragon Ambassadors.   A 17 sports program is offered to all students; as well as a Community Service which is offered for students from K to 12th and allows students to become acquainted with people dealing with a variety of challenges and obstacles in their daily lives.

Senators Addie Eckardt presented the school with a resolution from the Senate of Maryland and Governor’s Citations from Governor Larry Hogan.

A wonderful display of food was prepared by chamber member Evolution Craft Brewing Public House.  The 50/50 raffle benefiting the SACC Foundation scholarship endowment took place, and the winner was Diamond Nwaeze.  The Salisbury School had door Prizes that included an amazing Eastern Shore basket, a TSS Cooler, and TSS  Tervis tumblers.
