Salisbury, MD – September 15, 2020 – The Salvation Army Lower Eastern Shore will be doing a Food Distribution to 14 low income Senior Citizen complexes in Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester counties over the next two months. A team of Salvation Army staff and local volunteers will join in a procession together to help distribute over 22,000 pounds of food to 806 senior citizen households.
Senior citizens are less likely to venture out unless it’s for medical appointments and are most likely to suffer from food insecurity. With more than 48 million Americans facing this threat daily, we work to cure hunger by providing nutritious meals to anyone in need via food pantries and/or meal assistance. This includes help not only for senior citizens, but homeless as well as individuals and families in need of extra assistance. Since the COVID-19 pandemic struck the Lower Eastern Shore in Mid-March, The Salvation Army Lower Eastern Shore has distributed over 200,000 pounds of food to over 8,800 individuals. We will continue to do so until the need is met.
