Three Winning Teams Earn Cash Prizes At Hoops On the Ave.

SALISBURY, MD – After a day of playing three vs. three basketball, three teams were crowned winners of their divisions at the inaugural Hoops on the Ave. basketball festival, sponsored by Pohanka of Salisbury.

The Wicomico Civic Center parking lot was transformed into festival grounds May 28 as Wicomico County Recreation & Parks and the Mizzle House Foundation partnered to host the event. In addition to the basketball tournaments, attendees could enjoy live music and arts, shop at sneaker vendors and participate in kids’ activities.

Elevation Over Emotion was the winning team in the Elite Men’s division and earned a $1,000 prize. The team included Jamaal King Jr., Gary Briddell, Churchill Bounds and Craig Winder, along with Coach Josh Bright.

Men’s and Women’s teams could each compete for a $250 prize. The Men’s division winner was Pure Ballers, which included team members Corey Ellis, Kevin Robles, Joe Carlos Holland and Shawn Schoolfield. The Women’s division winner was The Gulls, which included team members Kelsie Bacon, Lauren Rothfeld and Josephine Noonan.

Each winning team also received a street sign award.

“Thank you to everyone who played a part behind the scenes, gave their time to volunteer, sponsored, supported, played and came out to enjoy themselves at Hoops on the Ave.,” said James Simmons, recreation superintendent for Wicomico County Recreation & Parks. “I’m so proud of our community for coming together to celebrate basketball culture and kick off the summer in a positive way.”
